2049.ca

2049.ca is a new push toward a movement to reduce the impact we Atlantic Canadians are making on the environment. It is the beginning of the Green @ Heart movement.

Much of what we call coastline around Atlantic Canada will likely be underwater in the next few decades.

“Nova Scotia is anticipating the high-tide mark on the Atlantic coast will be at least 70 centimetres higher by the next century.”

“More than 80% of the coastlines of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are identified as being moderately to highly sensitive to sea level rise.”

As you can imagine, this is a bit of an issue. We need to dramatically reduce our contribution to the rising sea levels.

Climate change will have real consequences for the provinces we call home. We need to take this to heart, to make concerted efforts to limit the harm we’re doing to the planet.

By hurting the planet we’re hurting ourselves and our homes, and the life with which we share this planet.

Green@Heart is our contribution to all the great work that’s already being done in Atlantic Canada to help people reduce their impact on the climate.

Of course, we don’t know exactly how much higher the water levels will be in 2049. But we do know that things will be a lot worse if we don’t act right now.

This is precisely the sort of thing we need to be planning for now. Well, that we should have been planning for a long time ago.

2049.ca and what you’ve seen around Downtown Halifax is the beginning of this movement, the first push to help people notice how real the effects of a changing climate will be for them and future generations.

We hope you’ll join in and help us all become a little more Green@Heart.

We know what we need to do. There are so many resources available to tell us what we could be doing, what we should be doing. So let’s get more focused on actually doing our part, on acting more green, not just talking about it.

2049.ca is our first awareness campaign about the real effects climate change will have, and we’re hoping it will help us all get a little greener.

Re: TURN IT OFF!!!

Agreed. Carbonrally.com estimates that unplugging your computer each night saves 50 lbs of carbon per month!

Well done and keep it all going

Hey!

Thanks Paul! We'll be

Thanks Paul! We'll be updating with new initiatives soon, so keep checking back.

Why is it that when we speak

Why is it that when we speak about reducing the harm we are doing in this province, country or word wide to the environment the responsibility of retailers never comes up. Operating these huge stores 7 days a week, and in some cases 24 hours a day can't be good. The power lines are buzzing, the emissions are pumping, the ozone grows thinner..........gasp! All for the almighty $$. When I see a parking lot full, power doors open/shut open/shut, cashregisters flashing, spot lights shinning, cars idling waiting for merchandise to be loaded..........its hard to beleive that idling my car for 2 minutes is making an impact worth mentioning. Maybe when I see the retailers lights go dim, parking lots grow thin, I'll feel that there is hope.

Thanks for your insight. You're right, there are things happening every day that most of us don't give a second thought that would make a tremendous impact on our environment. We hope that this blog becomes a conversation place for ideas and thoughts around living more sustainably to be shared. As a few others have already suggested, there is much that we can do to make an everyday impact and help generate some hope.

Never think that one person

Never think that one person can't make a difference, if everyone took this attitude then the outlook would be quite grim.
I agree that the retailers make a big footprint and I believe that they are starting to realize this and make changes for the good but it is all of us 'little people' together than can totally make an 'impact worth mentioning' as you say - if we each take some personal responsibility to do little things they will add up to big things in the end!

Agreed

Its not just a fairytale that one person can make a difference. A whole bunch of littles CAN make a big! Look at any swarm...

And if all of us "littles" speak out loud and clear, we can force those corporations to change. Ultimately we can speak to them in their language: $$. If we refuse to buy those products that use wasteful packaging for instance, or stop shopping after a certain time to make them realize that shutting off for the night is a good plan, they will notice it.

Change takes time but it WILL happen if we just make a concerted effort to bring it about. Even if not in our lifetime, how about for our children and grandchildren? Their world is WORTH fighting for.

Google

I saw your ad in the Halifax Chronicle Herald. Googling '2049.ca' does not bring up your website; thought you should know. I had to use the address bar. Best luck! Remember to not 'exaggerate for effect', because it turns people off.

Thanks for the heads up and for stopping by! I think that Google issue has been resolved.
